So, Dexter had his first year check-up today and tried his very best to bankrupt me. Turns out not one, but both of his hind legs have luxating patellas, even though I have only ever seen one slip. Basically, this means that eventually he will need to have knee surgery. Probably sooner rather than later but the grad school budget does not exactly allow for sooner. He doesn't seem to be in any pain and continues to run around on three legs until it pops back into place, so I'm not too worried. Plus, we are about to go back to Athens where he is lazy dog and not constantly trying to get Lady to chase him and run sideways. All in all, though he got a clean bill of health and only tried to take out one vet and one vet tech when they tried to trim his nails. Alas, only one foot clipped. You win this time Dexter.
